Buying route

Start here: choose a smart plug by the load and outlet

1. Start with the device you intend to switch

Write down the appliance nameplate voltage, current and wattage before browsing plugs. If it has a motor or compressor, note that rating too. A plug marked 15 A is not automatically suitable for every 15 A appliance: manufacturers may state separate limits for general/resistive loads, incandescent loads and motors. The strictest relevant limit controls. If the appliance instructions say not to use a remote switch, do not override that instruction with a smart-home routine.

Choose the device's actual job. A lamp, a heating appliance and a pump do not create the same switching conditions. Avoid guessing from the plug shape or wattage alone; ask the appliance maker when its label is missing or unclear.

2. Decide where the plug will be used

Outdoor use, damp locations and garages with large temperature swings need a product explicitly rated for those conditions. A roof or weather cover does not change an indoor device into an outdoor-rated one. Confirm the plug's environmental rating and the electrical outlet's own protection separately.

3. Measure the real outlet

Measure the plug body, then check the wall plate, adjacent socket, nearby adapter, cord bend and furniture edge. Product dimensions are not the same as a clearance diagram. For a stacked duplex receptacle, a compact shape may help, but only a physical check can show whether both openings remain usable.

4. Choose the control path

Some plugs work through a manufacturer's app over Wi-Fi; others add Matter support for compatible smart-home platforms. Matter does not tell you whether the device uses Wi-Fi or Thread, whether a hub is needed, or whether another app exposes every vendor feature. Check the exact platform and controller. If a local connection during internet loss is essential, find a direct statement for the model and understand whether it applies after setup.

5. Decide which routines matter

A weekly schedule, countdown timer, random Away Mode, energy reporting and local control are different capabilities. Do not assume that one app's support for a timer means a third-party Matter app will offer the same control. Treat consumption monitoring as unknown unless the exact documentation names it.

6. Verify the version and package

Record the printed model, regional version and package count. A multi-pack may share the same plug but is a different offer; a regional hardware version may have a different manual or radio. This assessed library covers selected TP-Link, Meross and Shelly US model/package routes rather than every retail offer or hardware generation. The white Shelly Plug US Gen4 single, 2-pack and 4-pack are separate profiles because the package quantity changes the number of devices, while each unit retains its own rating; an EP40 version reference remains outside precise seller matching. Indoor Kasa routes include EP10 V1 (package size not selected), EP25P2 V2.6 two-pack, the earlier EP25P4 V1 four-pack, the HS103P3 V3.8 three-pack, the earlier KP125MP2 V1 two-pack and KP125MP4 V1 four-pack. The earlier Kasa KP303 V1 three-outlet strip has two always-on USB ports and a separate 1/6 hp US motor rating; it is not a current-stock claim. Newer assessments distinguish the HS300 V1 six-outlet strip from the KP115 V1 single plug; their Kasa energy reports have different outlet scopes. Tapo includes P105 V1.2 one-pack and the separate P105 V1.20 four-pack (four independent plugs), P110 V1 one-pack, P125M V1.20 US one-pack and three-pack, P125 V1 US two-pack and four-pack, plus the current P400M outdoor dual-socket one-pack, TP25 outdoor dual-socket plug and P430M outdoor dimmer. P400M's exact seller suffix is unresolved and its V1.6 sheet's 1/6 hp rating conflicts with the live product page's 1/2 hp claim. P430M is for compatible lights only, not a general appliance switch. P125 and EP25 document HomeKit; P125M and KP125M are separate Matter models. The P110 adds Tapo energy reporting and documented Tapo-app LAN access after internet loss, while P105's checked route does not establish either feature; neither P105 nor this P110 route documents Matter or Apple Home. P105's 1,800 W general-use rating has lower maker examples for some appliances. EP10 package size, EP25P4 seller revision, HS103P2/HS103P4 bridges and exact P105/P110 seller suffixes are purchase-time checks, not claims that those details are known. The current library matches are an evidence filter, not a marketwide shortlist. Use the finder only as an evidence filter, then check the load-limit guide.

The outdoor branch includes an EP40 identification reference, the earlier EP40A HomeKit model, the EP40M Matter model and the earlier KP405 V1 dimmer for compatible lighting. EP40 cannot be treated as a precise seller match until its hardware suffix is known; EP40A and KP405 are earlier routes, while EP40M has a separate Matter-controller path. Do not use the KP405 as a general appliance plug; its bulb-specific ceilings and installation instructions are different. For any outdoor choice, read the outdoor installation guide and the exact version's safety instructions. These TP-Link profiles cover the recorded US model routes, not every seller offer or historical version.

The current outdoor candidates include corded dual-outlet EP40M and P400M on/off plugs and the P430M one-light dimmer; the earlier EP40A HomeKit model and KP405 V1 dimmer remain separate. P400M has a 1/6 hp V1.6-sheet value that conflicts with the product page, while P430M has bulb-specific 125 V limits and is not a general appliance plug. Exact package/version, control, and mount details differ. For any outdoor choice, read the outdoor installation guide and the exact version's safety instructions. These TP-Link profiles cover the recorded US model routes, not every seller offer or historical version.

Finder answer: indoor, dry location

For indoor, dry use, the matcher has thirty-five current reviewed configurations, including the newly assessed MSS425F US/JP strip, three white and three black Shelly Plug US Gen4 package routes, and the indoor-only Shelly Wave Plug LR. The base MSS110 US/JP is a one-plug Wi-Fi/HomeKit mini with no energy meter, distinct from the MSS110HK US/CA four-pack; MSS315 US is a Matter four-pack with energy reporting in the Meross app; MSS425FHK US is a separate four-AC/four-USB strip. Each indoor-only model has its own control, package and shared-load limits; a multi-pack or strip outlet count does not multiply its electrical ceiling. Compare load class, app route, control layout and exact suffix rather than treating model name as fit.

The indoor set includes Kasa EP10, EP25P2, KP115 and KP125MP4; distinct Tapo P105, P110, P110M, P115, P125, P125M, P135 KIT, P306 and P316M routes and Kasa HS300 also match. The P135 is a lamp-only dimmer kit, P306 is a wall outlet extender with three switched and three always-on AC outlets, P316M and HS300 are strips with different outlet counts and shared ratings; these are not interchangeable with single-outlet plugs. P110M offers Matter and Tapo energy features, while P115 documents Tapo energy and routines without the Matter/Apple Home path checked for P110M. P110M/P115 package routes stay separate because package count does not change each plug’s rating. The P105 four-pack is four single-outlet devices, not one four-outlet adapter. Compare P105 one-pack, P105 four-pack, P110 V1, P110M two-pack route, P110M four-pack, P115 two-pack, P115 four-pack, P135 KIT lamp dimmer, P306 extender, P316M strip, HS300 V1 strip, KP115 V1, P125 two-pack, KP125MP4 and the separate MSS110 US/JP one-plug route, then show all current indoor matches.

The Meross MSS115 is another indoor option, but its two-pack contains two separate Matter plugs and no energy monitor. Read the MSS115 US/CA two-pack assessment before comparing its local-control case with the TP-Link layouts above.

The indoor-only result has thirty-five current profiles. It contains the separate MSS425F US/JP strip, while the MSS425FHK strip remains a different suffix and offer. MSS425F US/JP has four individually switched AC outlets and four USB ports controlled as one group; its 15 A AC limit is shared, and its 12.2-inch body width exceeds the finder's 10-inch maximum. The original MSS620 US and MSS630 US pages explicitly say indoor/outdoor, but this site's separate indoor-only branch does not include them; that is a conservative tag distinction, not a claim that Meross bars dry indoor use. Read the MSS110 US/JP, MSS110HK and MSS315 assessments for their separate package and integration limits. Show the same-condition indoor finder result to see all thirty-five matches.

The indoor-only finder has thirty-five current profiles, including three white and three black Shelly Plug US Gen4 package configurations plus the indoor-only Shelly Wave Plug LR; each Gen4 plug is rated 15 A / 1,800 W for resistive loads only, while Wave LR requires a compatible Z-Wave hub. Compare black single, black 2-pack, black 4-pack, Wave Plug LR. The black and white Gen4 finishes share the model code but remain separate reviewed package identities. Compare the single, 2-pack and 4-pack assessments; open the same-condition indoor finder for all thirty-five matches.

The indoor-only finder result has thirty-five current profiles; the MSS425F US/JP is a distinct four-AC/four-USB strip, but its 12.2-inch body width lies beyond the finder’s 10-inch maximum. See the model assessment and open the same-condition indoor finder. This branch's indoor-only tag does not imply that separately documented indoor/outdoor models are prohibited from dry indoor use.

TP15 pack configurations are separate assessment entries; the ratings and functions stated here are per plug, not multiplied by package count. See the evidence for the TP15 V1 one-pack, two-pack and three-pack.

Finder answer: hide earlier editions

Hide earlier editions when your priority is a currently assessed route; forty-three current profiles remain, including the distinct MSS425F US/JP strip, original non-B MSS620 US and unsuffixed MSS630 US along with MSS110 US/JP, MSS110HK, MSS115, MSS315 and MSS425FHK. The Shelly Plug US Gen4 white single, 2-pack and 4-pack routes also remain current references. TP25, HS300, KP115, the separate TP15 V1 packages, P110M/P115 routes, P135 KIT, P306, P316M and P400M/P430M also remain. Earlier HS103P3, KP125MP2, EP25P4, EP40A and KP405 profiles stay hidden.

“Current” here is a research-library lifecycle label, not proof of live stock or a warranty. The MSS115's energy monitor is explicitly absent; MSS110HK also has no meter, while MSS315 reports through Meross and MSS425FHK has no confirmed energy capability. The outdoor MSS620BHK has a shared rating but no verified per-socket figure; MPD100HK is for dimmable lamps, not a general appliance. The checked EOL table dates KP125MP2, not KP125MP4. Other Tapo revision and package caveats remain in the cited reviews. Compare MSS115, MSS110HK, MSS315, MSS425FHK, MSS620BHK, MPD100HK, KP125MP4 V1, EP25P2 V2.6, P105, P110, P110M two-pack route, P115 two-pack, P135 KIT, P306, P316M, P400M, TP25, HS300, KP115, P430M and P125M V1.20, then show matches with earlier editions hidden.

With earlier editions hidden, forty-three current profiles remain. The unsuffixed MSS425F US/JP, original MSS620 US and MSS630 US are current-reference identities, not earlier suffixes. They remain distinct from MSS425FHK, MSS620BHK and MSS630HK. Compare the MSS110 US/JP, MSS110HK, MSS315 and MSS425FHK assessments, then open the same current-only finder result.

Hide-earlier matching leaves forty-three current profiles, including the MSS425F US/JP, original MSS620 US and unsuffixed MSS630 US, which remain current-reference configurations rather than earlier editions. Check all three exact model and package reviews; the buyer must still confirm the suffix and offer.

Hide-earlier matching leaves forty-three current profiles, including separate white and black Shelly Plug US Gen4 single-, two- and four-packs and the current Wave Plug LR; current-reference status is not proof of live stock. Compare black single, black 2-pack, black 4-pack, Wave Plug LR. Compare the single, 2-pack and 4-pack assessments, then open the same-condition current-only finder.

TP15 pack configurations are separate assessment entries; the ratings and functions stated here are per plug, not multiplied by package count. See the evidence for the TP15 V1 one-pack, two-pack and three-pack.

Finder answer: include earlier editions

Including earlier editions yields fifty-two matchable profiles in this assessed library, including the HS103P4 V1 four-pack, whose exact V1 route and HS103 (US) guide support Kasa routines while leaving overall load limits unknown.

The HS103P4 assessment uses the unit-level HS103 (US) V1 guide, not another pack's ratings; review the HS103P4 V1 four-pack assessment for its documented routines and explicit electrical unknowns. Earlier routes also include Shelly Plus Plug US SNPL-00116US as an indoor Wi-Fi/SmartThings route with device-level metering and schedules—not an outdoor or motor-rated choice. See its Plus Plug US review. Other earlier routes include the two-plug HS103P2 V3 with published per-plug 15 A / 1,800 W general-use and 1/6 hp motor limits, the Kasa KP303 V1 strip, KP405 V1 lighting dimmer, HS103P3 V3.8 and Matter KP125MP2 V1. The three newly reviewed MSS425F US/JP, original MSS620 US and unsuffixed MSS630 US remain current-reference profiles; all six Shelly Plug US Gen4 package routes and Wave Plug LR also remain current. Current Meross MSS110 US/JP, MSS115, MSS110HK, MSS315, MSS425FHK, MSS620BHK and MPD100HK also remain. TP25, HS300 and KP115 are current-library routes, not earlier editions. TP15 packs remain separate package routes; inclusion does not prove seller stock or warranty.

The three new Meross assessments remain distinct: MSS115 is an indoor Matter two-pack, MSS620BHK is a two-socket outdoor on/off plug with a shared rating, and MPD100HK is a lamp dimmer with bulb-specific ceilings.

Including earlier editions yields fifty-one matchable profiles in this assessed library. The current Meross MSS425F US/JP strip, original MSS620 US and unsuffixed MSS630 US remain separate from the MSS425FHK, MSS620BHK and MSS630HK suffix routes and from earlier Kasa models. Read the MSS425F US/JP review, original MSS620 US review and MSS630 US review, alongside the MSS110 US/JP, MSS110HK, MSS315 and MSS425FHK reviews, then open the same-condition all-editions finder result.

Including earlier editions yields fifty-one matchable profiles; MSS425F US/JP, original MSS620 US and unsuffixed MSS630 US remain current references, not earlier versions. Their distinct model identities and specification limits appear in the linked assessments.

Including earlier editions yields fifty-one matchable profiles in this assessed library; white and black Shelly Plug US Gen4 packages and Wave Plug LR remain current-reference configurations rather than earlier editions. Compare black single, black 2-pack, black 4-pack, Wave Plug LR. Compare the single, 2-pack and 4-pack reviews and use the same-condition all-editions finder.

These profiles are retained because their documented differences may matter, not because they are asserted to be available. Check package, hardware suffix, condition, return terms and support status before making a purchase decision. The HS103P2 V3 two-pack route is a pair of single-outlet plugs; each has its own documented limit, but the generic package-content line still needs a seller-box check. The KP303 V1 three-outlet strip has separately switched AC sockets, always-on USB charging, a shared strip limit and a documented US 1/6 hp motor ceiling; it is an earlier Kasa strip, not a current-stock claim. The KP405 V1 dimmer is instead an earlier lighting-only route, unlike general indoor Kasa packages. Compare the HS103P3, KP125MP2, EP25P4 V1 and EP40A evidence with the P110M two-pack route, P115 two-pack, P135 KIT, P306, P316M, P400M, TP25, HS300, KP115 and P430M; or include earlier models in the finder.

TP15 pack configurations are separate assessment entries; the ratings and functions stated here are per plug, not multiplied by package count. See the evidence for the TP15 V1 one-pack, two-pack and three-pack.
