A useful fit for

A document-based fit for an indoor grounded wall location where three independently switched AC outlets, three always-on AC outlets and grouped USB charging are more useful than a compact single plug.

The main tradeoff

All connected electrical loads share the extender's overall 15 A / 1,875 W nameplate limit, only three AC outlets are smart-switched, and the checked V1 sources do not establish a motor rating, energy monitoring or Matter support.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Which P306 outlets can I switch?

TP-Link describes three individually controlled smart AC outlets, three always-on AC outlets and three USB ports operated together. The 9-in-1 label counts unlike connection types, not nine independently switched smart sockets.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can I use the P306 outdoors?

No. The P306 V1 datasheet and user guide say indoor use only and not to use it in damp environments or outdoors. A covered location does not change that rating.

Does the P306 report energy use?

The reviewed P306 V1 product page, datasheet and user guide do not establish per-outlet energy monitoring. Do not assume an energy graph because the extender has app control or USB ports.

Three switched sockets sit beside three always-on sockets

The P306 is a wall-mounted outlet extender, not a single smart plug. TP-Link describes three individually controlled AC outlets, three always-on AC outlets and three USB ports that are controlled together. It also incorporates a light-sensing night light, USB-C Power Delivery and two USB-A Quick Charge ports. This can make a crowded wall outlet more useful, but the six AC receptacles do not all behave alike: only the three marked smart outlets can be switched through the app or voice assistant. The always-on outlets stay powered, and the USB group should not be mistaken for three independently switched AC receptacles.

The product page calls the design “9-in-1,” but that count spans multiple kinds of connections and includes an integrated night light. It is not nine independently controlled smart AC sockets. If you need every outlet to be switched, compare the P306’s labeled smart outlets with a power strip designed for independent control of each receptacle. The P306’s adjustable stabilizing post and mounting screw hold the extender against the wall; check the actual outlet pattern, screw location, wall plate and grounding before assuming it will sit securely.

Keep the total load in view

TP-Link lists a 100–125 V input and 15 A / 1,875 W maximum load. That is the product’s overall ceiling, not a separate 15-amp allowance for each of its three switched sockets plus the always-on sockets. The manufacturer says the combined connected equipment must stay within the maximum, and that power supported varies by appliance. For the finder’s 120-volt watt field, the reviewed profile uses 1,800 W as the 15 A equivalent at 120 V; the manufacturer’s 1,875 W label corresponds to the 125 V end of the stated range. Check appliance nameplates and the product instructions instead of treating either aggregate number as a universal fit for every device.

The checked V1 materials do not provide a separate motor-horsepower rating or a distinct general/resistive load classification for the P306. That omission is not proof that every appliance is unsuitable, but it means I cannot responsibly make the P306 a positive match for the site’s motor filter or general-load classification. The load finder fails closed when a specific capability is unconfirmed. The three switched outlets and the always-on sockets also share the extender’s overall rating; using multiple openings does not expand the circuit or the product’s total capacity.

App routines and Apple Home, without a Matter claim

TP-Link’s P306 page and user guide document Tapo app control, Apple Home/HomeKit, Alexa, Google Assistant and Samsung SmartThings routes. The V1 quick-start guide explains linking third-party services through the Tapo app. The unit uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, with Bluetooth used for setup. A HomeKit code is part of the separate Apple Home setup path; remote access, sharing and automations may depend on the Apple home-hub arrangement described in TP-Link’s guide.

The product page documents schedules and timers, and the P306 firmware notes include an Auto-off timer feature. Its sources do not establish a Tapo local-control guarantee after an internet outage, an energy monitor or Matter certification. In particular, Apple Home compatibility here is a documented HomeKit route; it should not be relabelled as Matter. If the exact integration protocol, energy reporting or offline behavior is essential, the evidence for this model does not answer those questions in the affirmative.

Light, USB and mounting are part of the trade

The integrated night light turns on when ambient light is low, and TP-Link describes app adjustments for its brightness and schedule. The three USB ports are one USB-C PD port and two USB-A QC ports; the current product page advertises up to 18 W, while its datasheet lists different single-port and multi-port output combinations. Treat those figures as charging capability rather than an extra AC outlet, and check the exact device and instructions if a particular USB power profile matters.

The main body measures 6.6 inches high, 3.9 inches wide and 1.3 inches deep; the manufacturer lists the order as height × width × depth. These are the extender’s body dimensions, not installation clearances. The source instructions specify a grounded wall receptacle, say not to use the unit outdoors or in damp locations, and warn against plugging it into another relocatable power tap or extension cord. The unit is supplied with a mounting screw, stabilizing post and quick-start guide. Use the mounting pieces as instructed and verify the wall outlet can support the arrangement before plugging in bulky adapters.

Version, evidence and practical limits

The TP-Link US catalog and product route identify the P306; its support page separates the V1 branch and links V1-labelled technical documents. The product page’s package content is one extender with mounting screw, stabilizing post and quick-start guide. Do not confuse it with Tapo P300 regional power strips or the P316M six-outlet Matter strip; they have different outlet layouts and supported features.

This assessment is based on manufacturer documentation, not an inspection of a retail unit, long-term use or measurements. The official materials do not provide a motor rating, energy-monitoring evidence or an internet-outage control guarantee for this reviewed route. A CPSC SaferProducts exact-name query for “Tapo P306” returned an empty array on October 29, 2026; that scoped database result does not certify safety or future recall status. Confirm the exact US model, grounded wall fit, device loads, available outlet space and seller package before ordering.
