A useful fit for

A document-based fit for 4 indoor installations where black finish, Shelly-app scheduling and power metering are useful; each plug remains an independent one-outlet device with its own rating.

The main tradeoff

The 1,800 W maximum is resistive-only and there is no documented horsepower ceiling. The default Matter/Wi-Fi and alternative Zigbee firmware are not simultaneous; timer, schedule and energy views are not established as identical in every third-party app. Body height/depth figures conflict, so only the common width is matched.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Which exact black Gen4 package does this profile cover?

Black / 4-pack; four independent plug devices. Storefront variant 54095201370453. The store SKU field is PLUGGEN4BLACK2Pack despite the 4-pack title and image; no exact black 4-pack EAN/GTIN is established.

Does 1,800 W mean it is a motor or compressor approval?

No. Shelly limits the published 1,800 W maximum to resistive loads. The checked exact-model sources do not publish a motor horsepower ceiling; compare the actual appliance instructions and plug guide.

What does the local-control and timer evidence actually cover?

The Shelly/device route includes a local web interface after setup on the working home LAN, weekly schedules, energy metering and the product page’s integrated one-hour countdown shutoff. That does not establish identical timer, schedule or energy views inside Apple Home or other third-party apps, or operation after Wi-Fi/router failure.

Assessment basis: this review is for Shelly USA’s black four-plug package of Plug US Gen4, model S4PL-00116US. The official selected package route and image show four individual plug bodies. I have not installed, used, measured or load-tested the product; this is a source-based review.

Four separate devices, not one four-outlet strip

The four-pack changes how many plug bodies arrive, not what each one can do. Its image shows four black single-socket devices, so this is a batch for several wall outlets rather than a long power strip. Each plug needs a separate installation point, each draws its own Wi-Fi or selected radio setup, and each keeps its own electrical rating. Neither the package image nor the quantity implies automatic grouping, a shared aggregate rating or a single managed output. The product route identifies Black / 4-pack and a dedicated product image. The storefront exposes a variant identifier but its SKU field does not establish a manufacturer EAN for this four-unit bundle. That leaves a practical ordering check: match the exact black 4-pack route and confirm the box count with the seller. Do not infer the package from the single-plug photo or confuse it with four white devices or one power strip.

Plan four outlet placements before comparing capacity

Four independent plugs can suit different rooms or equipment, but each needs a grounded US receptacle with enough clearance. The Gen4 printed guide labels a Type-B inlet and Type-B outlet. Shelly’s product page gives body dimensions of 1.50 × 2.52 × 2.01 inches H × W × D, while its printed guide gives 1.42 × 2.52 × 1.99 inches. Only the 2.52-inch width is common to both figures, so this profile withholds the disputed height and depth. For four planned installations, check each wall plate, adjacent socket, cord, furniture and outlet orientation; one fit at one wall does not establish fit at the other three. Shelly publishes 120 V, 15 A and 1,800 W for resistive loads. Those values apply per plug, not across all four. Do not add the package’s ratings together to approve one device or circuit. The source documents list resistive, capacitive and inductive loads, but no separate motor horsepower limit was found for the exact Gen4. If one of the four appliances is a motor, compressor or other high-starting-load device, check its own label and instructions rather than relying on a general watt limit.

Protocol choice repeats across the package

The default firmware uses Wi-Fi/Matter. The printed guide describes switching to Zigbee firmware with five fast button presses; that is an alternative mode, not simultaneous Matter and Zigbee. In a Matter route, Apple Home needs a compatible Matter controller. A Zigbee setup requires a compatible coordinator. Plan the same mode intentionally for all four only if that fits the home’s network and device-setup preferences; the four-pack does not include evidence of an extra hub or guarantee a particular app’s behavior. The manufacturer lists model-specific Alexa Power Controller, Google On/Off and SmartThings Switch/Power Meter capabilities. Those limited labels should not be stretched into a claim that all four devices display energy history or run the same scheduling features inside each service. The Shelly/device route is the documented place for the product’s schedules and metering. The manufacturer describes an integrated countdown shutoff that can switch a forgotten load off after an hour. It does not specify in the checked material that every third-party app offers the same timer or an arbitrary duration.

Where the four-pack adds value—and where it does not

The package makes most sense when four exact black Gen4 devices are already part of the plan and their individual outlet locations have been checked. It can simplify model selection across several points, but setup and load decisions still happen per plug. The built-in energy measurement may help inspect separate device use through Shelly’s own path; no accuracy tolerance or savings result is established. A larger quantity cannot guarantee utility savings or suitability for a shared electrical circuit. In a previously configured home, Shelly describes a local web interface and local schedules. That can be useful if the household values LAN access, but it relies on a functioning local network and does not prove remote control during an outage, Wi-Fi-independent operation or first-time setup without an internet connection. Away Mode is not documented for this configuration. Before ordering, confirm Black / 4-pack, four separate plug units, S4PL-00116US, outlet type, measurements and the seller’s exact return terms. The exact-name CPSC response for “Shelly Plug US Gen4 Black” was empty on 2026-10-31; it is only a narrow search. No price, inventory, ASIN, user review, human test or ownership claim is made here.
