A useful fit for

A source-based fit for one indoor household appliance when Kasa-app energy trends, a weekly schedule, timer or Away Mode matter.

The main tradeoff

KP115 uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and a Kasa-centered feature set; no Matter route, outdoor rating or separate motor horsepower limit is established by the V1 sources.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does KP115 expose energy usage in its Matter app?

The checked V1 sources describe energy monitoring through the Kasa app and do not establish Matter support or energy reporting in a Matter app. Treat Kasa as the confirmed reporting route.

Does the 15 A KP115 rating establish a safe motor load?

No separate motor horsepower limit appears in the selected V1 technical material. Check the appliance’s motor rating, startup behavior and instructions; do not substitute the 15 A general-load maximum for a motor specification.

What continues if my internet service goes down?

TP-Link says Kasa schedules and timers run locally on supported devices during an internet interruption. The checked KP115 material does not establish that its phone app can manually toggle the plug offline, so separate routine persistence from live control.

What the one-pack provides

This is a document-based assessment of the US Kasa KP115 V1 one-pack, not a personal-use or laboratory report. TP-Link’s catalogue lists a V1 one-pack item, while the selected product page names one Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Plug Slim and a quick-start guide. The plug has one controlled AC receptacle and a compact body; the model page says its design can allow two plugs to be stacked on a duplex outlet, but the actual wall plate and neighboring plugs still need to be checked.

The product page lists a maximum 15 A load and 1.8 kW at 120 V. That is a ceiling for this one plug, not a general guarantee for every appliance. The V1 documents reviewed here do not give a motor-horsepower limit, so this profile does not treat the 15 A figure as motor approval. Check the connected device’s current, startup behavior and manufacturer instructions, and choose a model with a stated motor rating if the load requires one.

Energy reporting is the differentiator

KP115 is explicitly sold as an energy-monitoring plug. Its Kasa app supports real-time and historical energy information, which can help identify patterns or compare a few household devices. TP-Link’s general energy-monitoring guidance gives an approximate 3–5% error range and cautions that the feature is not a professional measurement device. The report is therefore useful as an estimate and trend view, not a calibration certificate or a precise billing instrument.

That capability also distinguishes it from a basic on/off plug such as a non-monitoring Kasa mini model. It does not turn KP115 into a Matter device: the version-specific sheet lists 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and the Kasa ecosystem routes, not Matter or Apple Home. TP-Link lists Alexa, Google Assistant and Samsung SmartThings compatibility. Confirm the exact integration and the app where energy data appears before assuming a third-party platform exposes the same reports.

Schedules, timers and Away Mode

The KP115 V1 user guide documents schedules, a countdown timer, Away Mode and energy usage in the Kasa app. A repeating schedule suits a regular on/off routine; the timer is for a one-time countdown; Away Mode randomly toggles a device over a set period. They are related but different behaviors, so choose the one that fits the appliance rather than treating all three as interchangeable.

TP-Link’s Kasa guidance says schedules and timers continue to run locally on the device if the internet is down. This does not mean first-time setup is offline, that remote voice control will keep working, or that manual app control is established during the outage. The site’s finder therefore does not tag the KP115 as supporting an already-configured local-app control route merely because schedules and timers persist.

Fit, network and edition checks

TP-Link lists the body at about 2.6 × 1.5 × 1.6 inches (height × width × depth), and says the slim layout may leave room to stack another plug on an outlet. Compare the stated body size with the wall plate, neighboring receptacle and plug-in transformer shape; a compact body is not a measured clearance guarantee. The instructions restrict this model to indoor use.

The product connects through secured 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and the Kasa app. It does not use Matter or a separate hub for normal Kasa setup. The catalogue’s V1 one-pack and TP-Link’s V1 support documents provide the identity basis, while later support branches exist; the unit’s actual hardware label remains the buyer’s final check. The KP115 is worth considering when Kasa-based energy tracking is essential and one indoor outlet is enough. Compare another model for outdoor use, Matter/Apple Home, a verified motor rating or a larger multi-outlet installation.
