Meross MPD100HK Outdoor Dimmer Plug (US/CA) review

One IP44-rated corded dimmer for compatible dimmable lamps, with bulb-specific ceilings of 400 W incandescent or 150 W LED/CFL. Its schedule can run without internet, but the available sources do not confirm a weekly recurrence or a generic appliance rating.

A useful fit for

Consider this plug only for compatible dimmable lighting that stays within the correct lamp-type ceiling and where its short lead and IP44 enclosure suit the planned position. It is a lighting dimmer, not a general-purpose motor or appliance switch.

The main tradeoff

The two power limits are not interchangeable: incandescent lamps are capped at 400 W, LED/CFL lamps at 150 W, and the bulb must be dimmable. The source does not give a general current or motor-horsepower ceiling. IP44 and an outdoor label do not make a pump suitable or permit immersion.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the MPD100HK dim any LED or CFL bulb?

No. Meross specifies LED/CFL bulbs up to 150 W and says the bulb must be dimmable. Compatibility, dimmer behavior and load limits still depend on the lamp; the 400 W incandescent figure is a separate ceiling, not an LED allowance.

Will the MPD100 schedule keep running if my internet fails?

Meross states that custom schedules, including sunrise/sunset schedules, continue during an internet outage. This documents schedule execution, not local app access after internet loss, a surviving router outage, or a weekly repetition setting.

Can I switch an outdoor pump with this dimmer?

No. Meross explicitly says not to use the MPD100/MPD100HK for a pump. Its IP44 weather protection and outdoor use statement do not override that restriction or turn a dimmer into a motor-rated switch.

Assessment basis: this is a document-based assessment of the Meross MPD100HK US/CA dimmer plug. I have not connected a lamp, tested dimming compatibility, measured the body or used the plug outdoors. The manufacturer's bulb-type limits and its explicit pump warning are central to deciding whether this is the right kind of device.

A lamp dimmer, not a general-purpose smart outlet

The MPD100HK controls one AC socket, but that socket is designed to dim compatible lighting. Meross lists a maximum of 400 W for incandescent bulbs and 150 W for LED or CFL bulbs, and cautions that the bulb must be dimmable. Those are separate limits; the larger incandescent figure cannot be applied to an LED or CFL lamp. Nor does “up to 400 W” mean that a fan, motor, heater or arbitrary appliance is a valid dimmer load. Although the model page lists some examples such as fans and portable heaters, the US/CA listing's output table is bulb-specific, so I would not extend that table to a non-lighting load without the exact appliance and plug instructions confirming it. The output control is more specific than a plain on/off plug. Meross says app adjustment spans 1–100%, while the physical button offers a short set of preset levels. That is useful when a compatible exterior lamp needs routine brightness adjustment, but it does not certify that every dimmable LED will avoid flicker, hum or a narrow adjustment range. Lamp-driver compatibility varies. Confirm the lamp is explicitly dimmable and stay below the limit for its bulb type; a standard non-dimmable bulb is not made dimmable by the app. Meross's global page identifies one AC socket, a 90–125 V input range and an IP44 enclosure. It lists body dimensions of 2.36 × 3.15 × 1.58 inches (width × depth × height), excluding the 6.3-inch lead. Measure the socket, cover, cord bend and surrounding space. The short cord is a physical constraint if the receptacle sits far from the light's connection point. IP44 and the outdoor label do not mean immersion protection, and Meross explicitly says not to use the unit for a pump.

Routine options and their limits

The MPD100 source material describes customized on/off schedules, sunrise and sunset controls, and an auto-off timer. Meross says schedules continue when the internet is down. That statement concerns the saved schedule executing; it is not a promise that the app remains reachable after internet loss or that the Wi-Fi router can fail. The checked material does not specify whether the schedule repeats on selected days of the week, so I leave weekly recurrence unconfirmed rather than interpreting “custom schedule” as weekly scheduling. The family product page names Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, and the US/CA product listing describes control through the Meross app and Home app, including Siri. The store listing says no hub is required for its described Wi-Fi/app use, but Apple Home remote access and automations can still depend on Apple's own supported home setup. The evidence does not identify the MPD100HK as a Matter plug or confirm that dimming levels, schedules and timer functions appear in every linked smart-home app. Treat the specific app route as part of the purchase check, not as a brand-wide promise. The plug connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi; the technical page says enterprise Wi-Fi is unsupported. If the outdoor Wi-Fi signal is weak, the maker's connectivity claim does not replace checking the actual setup location. Complete pairing and test the compatible lamp in a safe, accessible location before relying on an outdoor schedule. There is no documented energy-reporting feature in the reviewed sources, and no motor horsepower limit appears in the exact source set.

Who should shortlist the MPD100HK?

Choose it only if the actual task is dimming a compatible light within the correct lamp-type wattage ceiling, and if the plug's body, short lead, Wi-Fi path and weather protection fit the installation. If the load is a general appliance, motor or pump, this is the wrong category of switch. If a simple on/off outlet is all that is needed, a rated relay plug may be a more suitable comparison, but it must have the load-specific rating the MPD100HK does not provide. The SKU `MPD100PHK-US` appears on the official US/CA listing, while the product page discusses the MPD100 family. Check the seller's printed model and exact instructions rather than trusting a broad family image. Compare bulb technology, wattage, dimmability, exterior placement and receptacle protection before buying. A face cover does not approve every wet-location installation; use the supplied instructions for the exact model. This review reports manufacturer documentation and does not claim a successful lamp pairing, measured brightness, weather test, energy savings or safety certification inspection. A dated empty exact-name CPSC query is limited evidence only, not a guarantee of no recall or product safety. The MPD100HK's distinguishing purpose is dimming a compatible light, and its practical limits follow from that specialized job.
