Shelly Plus Plug US (US, 1 plug) review

An earlier-generation, indoor Wi-Fi and Bluetooth plug with a local web interface, power/energy metering, automatic timers and schedules. Manufacturer integrations include Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings; support is feature-frozen at firmware 1.7.x except critical bug fixes.

A useful fit for

A document-supported earlier-generation fit for one indoor, dry-location control point where Wi-Fi-based Shelly routines and power/energy monitoring matter, with Alexa, Google Home or SmartThings integrations listed by the manufacturer.

The main tradeoff

It is a feature-frozen Plus-era model rather than Shelly's newer Gen4 product family. It is indoor-only, its 3.3-inch body width needs outlet-clearance checking, the integration documents do not establish identical meter/schedule controls in every third-party app, and no motor horsepower ceiling is published.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Which US Shelly Plus plug package does this assessment cover?

Shelly identifies the US plug as SNPL-00116US; Home Depot's US retail model text is Shelly Plus Plug US (1). This assessment covers one white single-output device, not the newer S4PL Gen4 device, a multi-pack, or a hub bundle.

Does the 1,800 W / 15 A figure establish a motor rating?

No. The manufacturer lists resistive, capacitive and inductive load classes but does not publish a motor horsepower ceiling. Treat 1,800 W and 15 A as a general maximum, then check the appliance's actual load and startup instructions; this profile will not match the finder’s 1/6 hp motor requirement.

Do scheduled routines and metering depend on internet access?

The device has a local web interface, local-Wi-Fi operation, built-in power/energy metering and schedules. That supports a preconfigured LAN path when internet service is unavailable but the router and Wi-Fi remain up; it is not an away-from-home path or a guarantee after the local network fails. Third-party apps may expose a different feature set.

Assessment basis: this review covers Shelly Plus Plug US model SNPL-00116US and the US retailer's one-device listing, Shelly Plus Plug US (1). It is a document-based assessment, not a hands-on test; I have not bought, installed, used, measured or load-tested this plug. The retailer listing establishes a product record, not current stock, seller revision or future availability.

Identify the Plus model before buying

Shelly's US technical documentation identifies the device as Plus Plug US, model SNPL-00116US. Keep it separate from Shelly Plug US Gen4 (S4PL-00116US) and Wave Plug LR (QLPL-001X16US): similar naming does not make the radio, software route or package interchangeable. Home Depot's model text reads Shelly Plus Plug US (1), while Shelly's device page describes one Type-B inlet and one controlled Type-B socket. No multi-pack, hub or accessory is assumed here. This is an earlier Plus-era model, even though a US retailer page still identifies it. Shelly's technical documentation says its feature set reached a freeze at firmware 1.7.x, with critical fixes continuing. That matters if a buyer expects new integrations or controls to arrive over time. Treat it as a bounded set of documented functions, check the exact SNPL code on the offer, and do not infer that features described for a newer Gen4 device also apply here.

Indoor Wi-Fi use, with a real fit check

The manual says indoor use only and warns against dirt, moisture and damp conditions. A covered porch is not a basis for treating this plug as weather-rated. Shelly lists 1.5 × 3.3 × 2.0 inches in height × width × depth. Its 3.3-inch width is worth measuring against the wall plate, the neighboring receptacle and the direction of an appliance cord; body dimensions alone do not promise clearance. The specified supply is 120 V AC ±10%, with a maximum switching current of 15 A. The retailer page states up to 1,800 W at 15 A, consistent with a 120 V screening figure. Shelly lists resistive, capacitive and inductive load classes, but no motor horsepower ceiling appears in the checked model-specific materials. A watt or amp number is not a motor-start rating. Check the appliance's nameplate and instructions, especially for compressors, motors or other equipment with startup requirements; this review does not establish suitability for a 1/6 hp motor task.

Metering and routines belong to the Shelly device path

The technical page describes a built-in power meter that reports energy use, automatic timers and schedules. The printed guide lists up to 20 schedules; the exact US retailer copy also describes day-of-week on/off scheduling and a countdown timer. These details make the Plus interesting when one indoor load needs metering plus a simple timed routine, rather than just app-controlled switching. Shelly describes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, a local embedded web interface and standalone operation on a local Wi-Fi network. That supports a preconfigured LAN route when the internet connection is down but the router and local network remain available. It does not mean the plug is remotely reachable without internet, or that control survives a failed router or Wi-Fi network. The sources do not establish a separate Away Mode, the timer's exact maximum duration or a metering-accuracy tolerance.

Integrations are not all the same feature set

Shelly's model-specific page names Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings integrations. Its local meter, schedules and automatic timers are documented at the device/service level, but the reviewed sources do not show that every function is exposed identically inside each third-party app. A shopper who needs a particular energy dashboard or schedule editor should verify that exact integration, rather than assuming the ecosystem label means feature parity. Matter certification and an Apple Home path are not established in the exact Plus Plug US documentation reviewed here; do not select this model on an assumption that a Gen4 Matter route carries over.

Who should keep it on the list?

The Plus Plug US makes sense as a research-backed candidate for a dry indoor outlet where the documented Wi-Fi control, power/energy reporting and routines are useful, and where an earlier Shelly device is acceptable. It is less suitable when outdoor exposure, a confirmed motor rating, a guaranteed third-party metering view, Matter or a continuing stream of new device features is essential. Before ordering, compare the SNPL-00116US identity, package text, appliance load, outlet clearance and feature requirements with the current manual and retailer terms. The exact-name CPSC query for Shelly Plus Plug US returned an empty array on 2026-11-02; that narrow lookup is not a safety certification or a future recall guarantee.
