Physical fit
Measure the wall outlet, not just the smart-plug body
Measure more than the plastic housing
Smart-plug listings often publish height, width and depth for the device body. Those are useful dimensions, but they do not describe the clearance needed to use it. A wall plate may be proud of the wall; another adapter can occupy the neighboring receptacle; a large appliance plug can turn sideways; and a stiff cord may need more room than the body suggests.
A quick measuring routine
- Identify the exact receptacle orientation and whether its second opening must remain available.
- Measure the faceplate and any surrounding recess, trim or furniture edge.
- Compare the smart plug's published body width, depth and height with those measurements.
- Check the connected appliance plug and cord bend, not only the smart plug.
- Keep access to the physical button and do not cover ventilation or place the device in an enclosed, damp or hot space.
Adjacent-outlet claims are not a fit guarantee
A manufacturer may call a design compact or say it is intended to leave the adjacent outlet open. That tells you what the shape is designed to do, not whether your combination will clear. An oversized wall adapter, plug rotated in the opposite direction or faceplate lip can change the result. Confirm with the exact body diagram and your actual outlet before ordering.
Respect environment and access
An indoor smart plug should not be moved to a damp basement or outdoor outlet because it appears compact or because another device's cover is weather-resistant. Check the smart plug's own environmental rating and the outlet's protection separately. Also consider whether the plug can be removed quickly and whether its switch remains reachable.
The current assessment library lists Tapo P105 at 2.4 × 1.5 × 1.3 inches (H × W × D), P110 at 2.6 × 1.5 × 1.6 inches, P125M at 2.4 × 1.5 × 1.3 inches, Kasa EP25P2 at 2.6 × 1.5 × 1.6 inches, and KP125M at the same 2.6 × 1.5 × 1.6-inch body size per plug. The outdoor P430M is 2.8 × 3.1 × 1.5 inches and the dual-socket outdoor P400M is 3.1 × 4.2 × 1.6 inches (H × W × D). The exact KP125MP4 package is four units, while KP125MP2 is an earlier two-pack; the P105 four-pack likewise contains four separate plugs. EP10's page makes a compact-design claim but gives no numeric dimensions in the checked source set. None of these figures includes clearance for a faceplate, cord, nearby plug or furniture. Review P105, P110, P400M and P430M for their exact measurement axes, and use the dimension filters as a screening aid, not an installation drawing.
The outdoor Kasa units add an attached cable, weather cover and often a clamp, so body dimensions alone are especially incomplete. EP40 and EP40A pages label their dimensions H × W × D, while EP40M lists W × D × H; keep the manufacturer axis order with the numbers. EP40M's page lists a six-inch cable but its V1 datasheet says 200 mm, so confirm the supplied lead before planning a mount. Compare the earlier EP40A assessment and EP40M assessment with your outlet, cover and cord path; EP40 remains an identification reference, not a resolved seller offer.
With earlier editions included, Shelly Plus Plug US SNPL-00116US measures 3.3 inches wide: a 3.2-inch body-width cap excludes it, and a 3.3-inch cap admits it. This housing dimension is not adjacent-receptacle clearance. Compare the exact-model review and the same earlier-edition finder conditions at 3.2 inches and 3.3 inches.
Numeric answer: maximum body width
The white and black Shelly Plug US Gen4 package routes are 2.52 inches wide: 2.5 inches excludes them and the next 2.6-inch cap admits them; official height/depth figures conflict, so only width is matched. Wave Plug LR is 3.3 inches wide and first fits at 3.3 inches. Compare black single, black 2-pack, black 4-pack, Wave Plug LR. Compare the single, 2-pack and 4-pack reviews and test the same-condition 2.5-inch and 2.6-inch finder cases.
MSS630 US is 3.9 inches wide and original MSS620 US is 5.1 inches wide; the 0.1-inch step admits each only at its listed body size, while MSS425F US/JP at 12.2 inches exceeds the questionnaire's 10-inch maximum. Compare the three exact MSS630, MSS620 and MSS425F assessments, then test unfiltered body-width caps at 3.8/3.9, 5.0/5.1 and 10 inches. Housing size is not installation clearance.
MSS110HK is 2.7 in wide and first passes at the 2.7-in step; MSS425FHK is 12.2 in wide, above the 10-in questionnaire ceiling, while MSS315 dimensions remain unknown. Compare the exact MSS110HK body, MSS425FHK strip and MSS315 anomaly; use 2.6/2.7 inches for MSS110HK and note that even the 10-inch maximum cannot fit a 12.2-inch strip body.
The distinct one-plug MSS110 US/JP route is also 2.7 inches wide: it fails at a 2.6-inch cap and enters at 2.7 inches, without promising adjacent-outlet clearance. Read the MSS110 US/JP assessment and compare 2.6 inches with 2.7 inches.
The TP15 V1 and KP115 V1 bodies are each 1.5 in wide; Meross MSS115 is 1.9 in wide, MPD100HK is 2.36 in, and MSS620BHK is 3.1 in. These are housing measurements, not side clearance or guarantees that adjacent receptacles remain usable.
The compact indoor comparison has an earlier step: the documented 1.5-inch-body plug group fits at 2.4 inches, while a 2.5-inch cap admits the wider P316M strip. Compare 2.4 inches and 2.5 inches in the same finder field; neither value includes clearance for a second outlet or attached cord.
EP40M uses W × D × H; indoor Kasa/Tapo sources use other orders, so check each exact source label. P105, P110, P115, P125, EP25P2, KP115 and KP125M list a 1.5-inch body width; P110M remains unknown. P316M is 2.5 inches wide, P135 KIT 3.0, P430M 3.1 and P306 3.9; P400M and TP25 are 4.2, and EP40M 4.33 inches. With the 0.1-inch step, the MPD100HK is included at 2.4 inches from its 2.36-inch body, while the MSS620BHK enters at 3.1 inches. HS300's 14.17-inch width exceeds the 10-inch questionnaire maximum. Compare 2.3 inches with 2.4 inches for MPD100HK and 3.0 inches with 3.1 inches for MSS620BHK; then compare 3.9 inches for P306, 4.1 inches to 4.2 inches for P400M/TP25 and 4.3 inches to 4.4 inches for EP40M. Read the MSS115, MPD100HK, MSS620BHK, P105, KP115, P430M, P400M, TP25, HS300, EP40M, P306, P316M and P135 KIT.
With earlier editions included outdoors, a 2.7-inch maximum matches Meross MPD100HK and EP40A; the 2.8-inch step adds earlier KP405 V1, while the wider MSS620BHK still fails. These are body measurements, not mounting clearances.
The KP405 is 2.8 inches wide in the manufacturer's H × W × D order; EP40A and MPD100HK are narrower, while MSS620BHK and EP40M exceed these thresholds. This comparison includes earlier editions only when requested; the KP405's short cable and mounting position still need a physical check. Read the KP405 V1 assessment, EP40A assessment and MPD100HK assessment, then compare 2.7 inches with 2.8 inches under the same earlier/outdoor filters.
TP15 pack configurations are separate assessment entries; the ratings and functions stated here are per plug, not multiplied by package count. See the evidence for the TP15 V1 one-pack, two-pack and three-pack.
Boundary checks: finder at 1.4 in body width; 2.4 in. Confirm all physical clearances separately.
Boundary checks: finder at 1.5 in body width; 2.4 in. Confirm all physical clearances separately.
No current assessed profile has a documented body width of 1.4 inches or less; this is a threshold in the checked library, not a market-wide conclusion.
Under Apple Home with both routine requirements, the MSS630 US body first enters the width screen at 3.9 in, while original MSS620 US first enters at 5.1 in. At 3.8 inches MSS630 is still too wide for the body limit; at 5.0 inches MSS620 remains out. Compare MSS630's 3.9-inch body, MSS620's 5.1-inch body and MSS425F US/JP, whose 12.2-inch strip width exceeds the question's 10-inch maximum.
Use the same Apple Home, weekly-schedule and countdown filters to compare 3.8 in/3.9 in and 5.0 in/5.1 in. At a 10-inch maximum the strip-body screen still cannot admit MSS425F. These are body dimensions, not outlet, cord or clearance guarantees.
Combining earlier-model inclusion with an indoor body-fit limit
The HS103P2 V3 route is 1.57 inches wide, 1.50 inches deep and 2.62 inches high in the manufacturer's H × W × D order. With earlier models included, the indoor screen at 1.6 × 1.5 × 2.7 inches admits this route; a 1.5-inch width, 1.4-inch depth or 2.6-inch height cap separately removes it. Each step tests the body axis only, not the plate, adjacent socket or cord clearance.
For an earlier indoor plug with a 1.6-in width, 1.5-in depth and 2.7-in height cap, ten profiles remain; HS103P2 V3 is among them, but these body axes are not clearance estimates. Compare the HS103P2 V3 pair, Tapo P105 V1.2 and TP15 V1, then open the same three-axis finder screen.
At the same earlier/indoor, 1.5-in depth and 2.7-in height conditions, a 1.5-in width cap excludes the 1.57-in HS103P2 body; nine other assessed profiles remain. Use the same screen with a 1.5-in width cap and compare P105 or TP15 V1.
At the same earlier/indoor, 1.6-in width and 2.7-in height conditions, a 1.4-in depth cap excludes HS103P2's 1.50-in body; nine other assessed profiles remain. Compare the exact HS103P2 V3 dimensions with the P105 and TP15 V1, then test the same screen at 1.4-in depth.
At the same earlier/indoor, 1.6-in width and 1.5-in depth conditions, a 2.6-in height cap excludes HS103P2's 2.62-in body; nine other assessed profiles remain. The next 0.1-in questionnaire step admits it at 2.7 in; compare P105 and TP15 V1 under the 2.6-inch screen and the 2.7-inch screen. Measure all installed clearances independently.
The earlier Shelly Plus Plug US has a 2.0-inch body depth; it is excluded by a 1.9-inch cap and included at 2.0 inches. A wall plate, plug insertion, appliance-cord bend and furniture clearance are not part of that dimension. See the SNPL-00116US assessment and compare the same earlier-edition finder condition at 1.9 inches and 2.0 inches.
Numeric answer: maximum body depth
The documented depths are 2.4 in for MSS425F US/JP, 2.6 in for original MSS620 US and 3.8 in for MSS630 US; each first passes the body-only depth screen at its own dimension. Compare the exact MSS425F strip, MSS620 and MSS630 routes at the unfiltered 2.3/2.4, 2.5/2.6 and 3.7/3.8-inch steps. Cord bend and outlet clearance remain separate.
Wave Plug LR is 2.0 inches deep and first passes at a 2.0-inch cap; the documented depth is a housing dimension, not the full installed clearance. MSS110HK’s 1.5-inch and MSS425FHK’s 2.4-inch boundaries remain separate, while MSS315 dimensions remain unknown. Read the Wave Plug LR dimensions and voltage caveat. Compare MSS110HK, MSS425FHK and MSS315; the same numeric field can screen a plug body or a wider strip body, not installed clearance.
The separate MSS110 US/JP body is also 1.5 inches deep, so 1.4 inches is too shallow and 1.5 inches admits its body measurement. See the one-plug assessment and the same-condition 1.4-inch/1.5-inch finder cases; the values do not include plug, cord or wall-plate clearance.
The TP15 V1 body is 1.3 in deep, so all three package routes enter at a 1.3-in maximum; 1.2 in excludes them. Wave Plug LR’s exact 2.0-inch depth first fits at 2.0 inches; use its physical dimensions only as a screening measurement, not as outlet or plug clearance. Review the LR body measurements. Body depth does not include the plug blades, cord bend or needed outlet clearance.
Depth is the housing measurement only; it excludes cord bend, wall plate, appliance plug and furniture clearance. MSS115 is 1.9 inches deep, MSS620BHK 3.0 inches, and MPD100HK 3.15 inches, so the 0.1-inch input step first admits the MPD100HK at 3.2 inches. P115 dimensions are consistent, P110M remains unknown, TP25 is 1.6 inches deep, KP115 1.57 (first admitted at 1.6), and HS300 2.49 (first admitted at 2.5). Compare the MSS115, MSS620BHK and MPD100HK with 1.8/1.9, 2.9/3.0, and 3.1/3.2 inches to see where each body becomes measurable at this step. Also compare 1.2/1.3, 1.4/1.5, 1.6 inches and 2.4/2.5 inches. Read P105, TP25, KP115, HS300, P110, P110M, P115 two-pack, P115 four-pack, P135 KIT, P306, P316M, P400M, P430M, P125, P125M and KP125MP4.
No current reviewed plug with a documented body depth fits a 1.2-inch maximum; missing dimension records do not establish physical fit.
TP15 pack configurations are separate assessment entries; the ratings and functions stated here are per plug, not multiplied by package count. See the evidence for the TP15 V1 one-pack, two-pack and three-pack.
The documented depths are 2.4 in for MSS425F US/JP, 2.6 in for original MSS620 US and 3.8 in for MSS630 US; each first passes the body-only depth screen at its own dimension. Their cords and adjacent-plug clearance remain outside this measurement. Compare the MSS425F strip, MSS620 and MSS630 reviews.
Hold Apple Home, weekly schedule and countdown constant while comparing 2.3 in/2.4 in, 2.5 in/2.6 in, and 3.7 in/3.8 in. These numbers describe housing only, not cord bend or required clearance.
The earlier Shelly Plus Plug US is 1.5 inches high, so a 1.4-inch body-height maximum excludes it and a 1.5-inch maximum admits it. This does not guarantee neighboring-plug or shelf clearance. Review the exact-model assessment and open the same earlier-edition height screen at 1.4 inches or 1.5 inches.
Numeric answer: maximum body height
For the unfiltered height field, MSS630 US first enters at its 1.9-inch body height; compare its exact model assessment and the same height cap at 1.8/1.9 inches. The 1.9-inch housing measurement does not set cord or shelf clearance.
Wave Plug LR is 1.5 inches high and first passes at a 1.5-inch body-height cap; the white/black Gen4 height remains unknown to the matcher because its product page and guide conflict. MSS425FHK and MSS110HK retain their 1.4- and 1.5-inch boundaries; MSS315 dimensions remain unknown. Check the exact Wave Plug LR review. Compare MSS425FHK, MSS110HK and MSS315; body height is not required shelf clearance.
The distinct MSS110 US/JP single plug is 1.5 inches high; it fails a 1.4-inch maximum and enters at 1.5 inches. Compare its documented body measurement and the 1.4-inch/1.5-inch finder cases; this dimension is not shelf or cord clearance.
The Meross MSS115 body is 1.2 in high, MPD100HK 1.58 in and MSS620BHK 1.6 in; the 0.1-inch steps first admit the latter two at 1.6 in. Wave Plug LR is 1.5 inches high and enters at that 1.5-inch body cap; the Gen4 height is withheld because its official source measurements disagree. HS300 V1 is 1.48 in high, so 1.4 in excludes it and 1.5 admits it. These are body dimensions only, not required clearance.
Body height is not the clearance needed to reach a switch or keep an adjacent receptacle free. MSS115 first enters at a 1.2-inch cap; the 1.58-inch MPD100HK and 1.6-inch MSS620BHK enter at 1.6 inches. KP115 is 2.62 inches tall and first fits at 2.7; TP25 is 3.1. Compare the maker's H × W × D or W × D × H order. P430M is 2.8 inches high and P400M 3.1; P316M's 14.2 inches is beyond the 10-inch maximum. Read the MSS115, MPD100HK, MSS620BHK, HS300 V1, KP115, TP25, P105, P110, P135 KIT, P400M, P430M, P306, P316M, P125, P125M and KP125MP4. Compare 1.1 with 1.2 inches for MSS115, and 1.5 with 1.6 for MPD100HK/MSS620BHK; also compare 1.4/1.5, 2.6/2.7, 2.1/2.2, 2.3/2.4, 2.7/2.8, 3.0/3.1, and 6.5/6.6 inches.
At a 1.1-inch maximum, no profile with a documented body-height measurement fits; unknown heights are not assumed to pass. At 1.2 inches, the MSS115 enters; at 1.5 inches, HS300 joins; at 1.6 inches, MPD100HK and MSS620BHK also meet the body-only threshold. This is a boundary in the checked library, not a market-wide conclusion.
MSS425F US/JP is 1.4 inches high, original MSS620 US is 1.5 inches high, and MSS630 US is 1.9 inches high; those listed body dimensions are not required shelf or cord clearance. Compare the MSS425F strip, original MSS620 and MSS630 reviews.
With Apple Home, weekly schedules and countdown timers held constant, a 1.3-inch body-height maximum returns no documented body in this screen; this checked-library result is not a market-wide conclusion. At 1.4 inches MSS425F US/JP enters; at 1.5 inches original MSS620 US enters; at 1.9 inches MSS630 US enters. Compare 1.3 in/1.4 in, 1.5 in/1.8 in and 1.9 in. Read the MSS425F US/JP, MSS620 US and MSS630 US assessments; these are body-only comparisons, not required shelf or cord clearance.
TP15 pack configurations are separate assessment entries; the ratings and functions stated here are per plug, not multiplied by package count. See the evidence for the TP15 V1 one-pack, two-pack and three-pack.
Combining a Tapo-app requirement with shallow depth
With Tapo control, TP15 V1’s 1.3-in body depth makes each of its three pack routes enter at a 1.3-in cap; 1.2 in excludes them. TP25 and P400M enter at 1.6 in; depth is not a clearance measurement.
This pairing combines a documented app route with a physical housing measurement. Even when a body clears 1.3 inches, measure the plug face, receptacle, cord and appliance connector. Compare P105, P135 KIT, P306, P316M, P400M, TP25, P430M, P125 and P125M; test Tapo app plus 1.2 inches against Tapo app plus 1.3 inches, compare 1.4 inches with 1.5 inches, then test 1.6 inches for TP25/P400M's documented body depth.
No current Tapo-app profile with a documented body depth fits a 1.2-inch maximum; do not treat a missing dimension as a pass.
TP15 pack configurations are separate assessment entries; the ratings and functions stated here are per plug, not multiplied by package count. See the evidence for the TP15 V1 one-pack, two-pack and three-pack.
Combining outdoor placement with available width
With outdoor use required, 3.0 inches admits only MPD100HK; 3.1 inches adds MSS620BHK and P430M; MSS630 US enters at 3.9 inches; 4.2 inches adds P400M and TP25, while 4.4 inches finally admits EP40M too.
MPD100HK is 2.36 inches wide, MSS620BHK 3.1, and P430M 3.1; the unsuffixed MSS630 is 3.9. At 4.2 inches, P400M and TP25 also join; EP40M is 4.33 inches and remains out at 4.3. Round only to the questionnaire's 0.1-inch entry increment; physically check the full housing, covers, cord and mount. Compare MPD100HK, MSS620BHK, MSS630 US, P430M, P400M, TP25 and EP40M, then compare outdoor widths 3.0/3.1, 3.8/3.9, 4.1/4.2 and 4.3/4.4 inches.
The 4.33-inch EP40M width is just beyond the 4.3-inch input. These are body-only thresholds, not a clearance recommendation or an exhaustive market statement.
With outdoor use and a 4.0-inch body-width cap, MSS630 US fits at 3.9 inches while original MSS620 US at 5.1 inches does not. The same result includes the 3.1-inch MSS620BHK, but that is a distinct suffix; IP44 and body fit do not establish immersion or installed clearance. Compare MSS630 US, MSS620 US and MSS620BHK, then open the exact outdoor / 4.0-inch screen; compare the same outdoor filter at 3.9 in and 5.1 in for those specific body dimensions.
Combining dry indoor use with body width, depth and height limits
At an indoor 3.0 × 2.4 × 1.5-inch body cap, both the one-plug MSS110 US/JP and four-pack MSS110HK meet their listed body measurements; MSS425FHK is 12.2 inches wide and MSS315 dimensions remain unknown. Compare the MSS110 US/JP's one-plug 2.7 × 1.5 × 1.5-inch body, the MSS110HK's 2.7 × 1.5 × 1.5-inch body and the MSS115's 1.9 × 1.9 × 1.2-inch body with the MSS425FHK's 12.2-inch strip width and the MSS315 source anomaly; apply the same four conditions in the finder.
